CTEVT Senate Convenes to Enhance TVET Quality

Kathmandu, August 12, 2025 - The 11th meeting of the Council for Technical Education and Vocational Training (CTEVT) Senate convened today at the CTEVT Hall, Sanothimi, emphasizing the need to enhance the quality and relevance of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) in Nepal. The meeting was chaired by the Hon. Minister of Education, Science, and Technology, Mr. Raghuji Pant.

The Member Secretary of CTEVT welcomed the delegates and presented an overview of the institution’s current status, its achievements since the 10th Senate meeting, and the major challenges it has been facing. The 11th Senate’s key agenda items included reviewing the budget and expenditures for the fiscal year 2081/82, approving the budget and programs for 2082/83, advancing institutional development initiatives, and refining staff service conditions. After thorough deliberations, the Senate endorsed all agenda items. Questions and concerns raised by the Senate members were addressed by the Member Secretary of CTEVT.

In his closing remarks, Minister Pant called for reform, stressing the urgent need to update TVET courses to align with the evolving labor market. Expressing concern over declining youth interest in TVET programs, he proposed the strategic merger of CTEVT-institutes and urged the management to prepare a concrete plan for the process, assuring full governmental support. Highlighting a pressing paradox, the Minister noted that while Nepali workers go abroad in search of employment and excel there, domestic industries often hire foreign labor. “CTEVT must raise the quality of its services, rebuild its image, and contribute to national development,” he emphasized. “Failure to adapt will leave us behind the times.”

Established under the CTEVT Act of 1988, the Senate—comprising 23 members alongside a 9-member Council—holds a pivotal role in policy direction, strategic planning, and the evaluation of Nepal’s TVET landscape. Today’s meeting reaffirmed its mandate to steer the sector toward innovation, inclusivity, and excellence.
